Game 2
TCU 10, Sacred Heart 0
TCU Head Baseball Coach Jim Schlossnagle
Opening Statement:
"We feel really good about the win. Mitchell Traver gave us everything and more than we possibly would have wanted from a pitching standpoint. Cody's home run took a little bit of pressure off, and I felt our at-bats throughout the course of the whole game, even though we didn't have a lot of hits in the first 5 or 6 innings, I thought our bats were outstanding. I thought our plate discipline was as good as it has been all year. I thought we had a good plan and didn't panic."
On playing for the first time in a while:
"It seems like it has been forever since we have played. I was anxious to watch these guys play again. To be able to get up 4-0, even though the game was still in question, it was nice not to be banging your head against the wall with pitching decisions and everything else."
On playing NC State Saturday:
"We know life is going to change Saturday, in facing a really, really good team and a really, really good left-handed pitcher. He's going to be a facing a pretty good team too."
On Preston Morrison starting Saturday against NC State:
"He's the best pitcher in the history of this school. He's pitched in a lot of big games. He's in our ball park. He's not perfect, and he's going to have to pitch well to win. How can you not feel confident. I'll be anxious about a lot of things, but starting pitching won't be one of them."
Jeremie Fagnan, Sr., Infielder
On stealing second and third:
"One thing you can't do is let up. We kept playing the same way we played since the opening game of the season. I saw the opportunity and I just took. I am always going to be aggressive when the time is there."
Nolan Brown, Jr., Outfielder
The production of the line-up from top to bottom:
"Cody Jones leading off with the home run really set the tone and kind of gave us a little breather and that we were back to our type of baseball and our mentality. The rest of the line-up backed him up."
Sacred Heart Head Baseball Coach Nick Giaquinto:
Opening Statement:
"We're disappointed. We wish we would have played a little bit better. Our guys prepared, and we worked hard this week and all season. We expected better of ourselves, but for TCU you have to tip your hat. They are one of the top teams in the country. We're ready to move on to Stony Brook."
On TCU's Mitchell Traver:
"His height, the speed, the movement, it all played a big part. That downward plane early on he got a bunch of ground balls. He had a little sinker too. His breaking ball was real sharp too. Our guys weren't picking it up. It seemed like a couple of times we were taking a pitching down the middle and then chasing a couple of breaking balls. We needed to have a few more quality at-bats."
On meeting with Stony Brook:
"I think we'll bounce back Saturday and play a little bit better."
James Cooksey, Jr., RHP
"The home run he (Cody Jones) hit was a great pitch. He just turned on it. He beat me."
Kenny Byram, Sr., Outfielder
On the game against Stony Brook Saturday:
"Having played them already gives us a little more confidence going into the game. We're two Northeast teams. I think we'll bounce back Saturday and have a great game."
