FORT WORTH, Texas -- Logan Ratledge belted a two-run homer in the fifth and Josh McLain added an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth to lead the NC State Wolf Pack to a 3-0 victory over Stony Brook Friday in Game 1 of the NCAA Fort Worth Regional.
NC State's Curt Britt (3-0) went 5 1/3 innings and allowed just four hits and struck out two in earning the win. Will Gilbert entered in the sixth with one out and two on, but got Casey Baker to ground out into an inning-ending double play to end the Stony Brook threat.
The Seawolves (34-15-1) threatened again in the ninth by getting a pair of runners aboard, but Gilbert slammed the door to end the game.
Ratledge finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and a run scored, while Preston Palmeiro and Bubby Riley had two hits each in NC State's nine-hit attack.
Daniel Zamora (7-3) allowed just two runs on seven hits and struck out four in taking the loss for the Seawolves.
Jack Parenty led Stony Brook with three of the team's six hits, and Bobby Honeymann added two.
With the win, the Wolf Pack (35-21) earn a meeting with the winner of Friday night's late tilt between TCU and Sacred Heart on Saturday. Stony Brook awaits the loser of Sacred Heart-TCU in a loser-out contest Saturday afternoon.
