TCU Announces Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU Athletics enjoyed a wealth of success last week; therefore, the Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week include: Giulio Castagnara (men's golf), Garrett Crain (baseball), Facundo Lugones (men's tennis), the men's 4x100 relay (men's track and field) and Brianna McGhee (women's track and field).
Castagnara, a sophomore from Pordenone, Italy, posted a career-best finish of fifth-place in NCAA regional action at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington. He shot a 209 at the tournament thanks to three-straight sub-par rounds, helping lead the team to an overall fourth-place finish, qualifying for the NCAA Championship held on May 29-June 3 in Bradenton, Florida.
Crain, the senior infielder from Mustang, Oklahoma, recorded back-to-back three hit games in the final two contests at Oklahoma. In the 4-2 victory over the Sooners on Saturday, he accounted for all four runs for the Horned Frogs, scoring one and driving in three. Up next for Crain and the baseball team is NCAA regional play beginning May 29.
Lugones, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, .The senior tallied a perfect 4-0 record in combined doubles and singles action last week. Against Wake Forest, he and Nick Chappell won their doubles point, 8-4, and then went on to claim a singles victory, 6-3, 6-2. In the match vs. North Carolina, the duo picked up the win at 8-7, and grabbed the singles point handily at 6-3, 6-1.
The men's 4x100 relay of senior Ramone Bailey, juniors Sam Watts and Ronnie Baker and sophomore Kolby Listenbee won the Big 12 title on Sunday, clocking in at 39.28 seconds. It was the second Big 12 championship and 20th conference crown spanning five conferences that the Horned Frogs have won in the event. It was also the ninth time in the last 10 years TCU has won the 4x100 relay at their respective conference meet.
McGhee, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, continued to climb her way up the TCU record books in the 100-meter hurdles. In the prelims of the Big 12 Championships, she posted a wind-legal PR of 13.35 and in the finals, she clocked in to a wind-aided time of 13.25 to finish fifth. With her performance, she sits at No. 2 all-time in school history in the event. The track and field teams travel to Austin for the NCAA West Preliminaries from May 28-30.
