"Amy prioritized academics and culture as important factors when making her decision on where to continue her education and athletic experience," Pebley said. "She holds herself to high standards on and off the court. We are thrilled she chose TCU!"
Okonkwo, a 6-foot-2 forward, played productive minutes as a true freshman at USC, averaging 3.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game while shooting 52 percent (35-68) from the field and 61 percent (20-33) from the free-throw line.
"Amy is a high IQ player that can not only score but also facilitate efficient offense with her decision making with the ball," Pebley continued.
The Fontana, Calif., native was rated as a top-100 prospect nationally as a senior at Etiwanda High School, where she was named to the Los Angeles Times' All-Star Team after averaging 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Okonkwo garnered 2013 Inland Valley Player of the Year honors as a junior after posting 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
"I chose TCU because it felt like home to me," Okonkwo said. "I love the school, environment and the basketball program. It was the best opportunity for me. I'm blessed and excited to be a Horned Frog."
Okonkwo is the fifth signing in Pebley's first class at TCU, joining Adeola Akomolafe (6-0, El Paso, Texas), Claire Ferguson (6-3, Olathe, Kan.), Jordan Moore (6-3, Round Rock, Texas) and Toree Thompson (5-10, Broken Arrow, Okla.).
