TCU Delivers Strong Start at Washington Regional

Photo Gallery | Tournament CentralBREMERTON, Wash. - All five Horned Frogs carded rounds of par or better as the TCU men's golf team opened play at the NCAA Washington Regional on Thursday at Gold Mountain Golf Club and sit just one stroke off the lead.
The Horned Frogs sit in a tie for second following a 7-under round of 281, just one stroke behind No. 30 UAB. TCU led the field of 14 for the majority of the day before the Blazers surged ahead to close the first round.
TCU is tied with No. 17 USC for second and is currently six strokes ahead of Iowa State and No. 12 Washington in fourth place. The top five teams at the conclusion of the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship.
Junior Paul Barjon led the Frogs with a 4-under 68 to tie for fifth overall, just two strokes off the tournament leader. Barjon put together a flawless round that featured four birdies against no bogeys, including three birdies on the final four holes. The Noumea Cedex, New Caledonia, native matched his previous career-low round in a NCAA event and has now reached par or better in seven of 10 career postseason rounds.
Sophomore Giulio Castagnara continued his hot play, carding a 2-under 70 for eighth overall following the opening 18 holes. The Pordenone, Italy, product opened the tournament on a tear, leading the entire field at 3-under at the turn. After two bogeys early on the back nine, Castagnara closed strong with his fourth birdie of the day on the second-to-last hole.
Fellow sophomore Chelso Barrett made his return to the site of his runner-up finish at the 2011 U.S. Amateur, carding a 1-under 71 for a new career low in NCAA play.
Seniors Julien Brun and Andrew Presley also turned in impressive showings in their first trip through the course, carding even-par 72s. Brun has now reached par or better in 12 of 16 career NCAA rounds.
