Black qualified for the event at the USA Shooting Selection Match in January at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. She was also in Fort Benning, Ga., last week for the second round of the selection process. The two scores were combined to also give her bids in the USA World Cup in Fort Benning (May 11-19) as well as the Munich World Cup, beginning May 26.
Each round came down to some final drama, as Black was third at the conclusion of both. Her tie with former TCU teammate and standout Sarah Beard came down to center shots, which ultimately went to Black by a 120-112 margin.
Black will be the only current collegiate shooter competing at the World Cup. The second day of shooting at the Colorado Springs event saw her fire a 591 in three-position rifle, one point below the current world record and 12 points higher than her opening round there.
As far as the 2014-15 TCU season went, Black finished in a tie for the team-lead in air rifle (591), smallbore (580) and aggregate (1,171). She also came in ninth in air rifle at the NCAA Championships. Her 597-point performance at the NCAA Qualifier, also in Colorado Springs, tied for the ninth-best mark in TCU history.
