LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech evened the series as it handed TCU a 5-1 loss Friday afternoon. Dane Steinhagen had three of TCU's five hits in the loss.

Preston Morrison (6-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one. Ryan Burnett gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings. Brian Trieglaff fanned two and allowed a hit in his 1 1/3 innings of work. Preston Guillory fanned two around a hit and a hit batter in his lone inning of work.

TCU jumped out to an early lead in the second but couldn't solve Texas Tech's Cameron Smith as he held the Frogs to just six base runners (two of which reached on fielding errors) over the final seven innings.

Keaton Jones hit a one-out triple in the second inning. It took a two-out hit, but Steinhagen delivered as he smoked a chopper through the middle infield to put the Frogs on top 1-0.

Texas Tech wasted little time bouncing back as it scored three times on four hits in the second. Back-to-back base hits to open the inning had the Red Raiders in business. Quinn Carpenter put the Red Raiders in front 2-1 with a bases-clearing double. A sacrifice bunt followed by a bunt single increased the lead to 3-1. Morrison limited the damage with an inning-ending double play.

A two-out error by the Frogs in the fourth proved costly as it led to another Texas Tech run. Ryan Long scored from first on a two-out double from Orlando Garcia to make it a 4-1 game.

Texas Tech continued to stretch its lead, adding a run on a pair of hits in the fifth inning. Tanner Gardner led off the inning with a triple and scored on a one-out base hit from Tyler Nesloney to take a 5-1 lead after five innings.

TCU's bullpen trio of Burnett, Trieglaff and Guillory shut the door in the final four innings as they allowed just four hits and struck out six.

With loss on Friday, the Frogs fall to 22-6 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play. TCU and Texas Tech will play the rubber match of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Alex Young will get the start for the Horned Frogs.
