FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team received a bid to the NCAA Championships for the second time in the last three years and 16th time in school history Tuesday. The Horned Frogs are a No. 2 seed in the four-team pod in College Station at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center, and will take on No. 36 Notre Dame on May 9 at 9 a.m.
A win by TCU would set up a matchup with the winner of the match between No. 1 seed Texas A&M and No. 4 seed Alcorn State. The host Aggies have the No. 10 national seed going into the championships and the second round matchup will take play May 10 at 1 p.m.
The Frogs are coming off a tie for second place in the Big 12 and an appearance in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tennis Championship. TCU's two seniors have led the way all season long and are ranked in the singles poll with Simona Parajova sitting at No. 44 and Stefanie Tan checking in at No. 79. Tan is also ranked nationally in the doubles poll with partner Seda Arantekin at No. 33.
Notre Dame enters the championships on a four-match losing skid with most recently taking a loss to Florida State, 4-3, in the second round of the ACC Tournament. The Fighting Irish are led by Allison Miller, who has totaled a 22-10 record in singles action with one win coming over a ranked opponent. Notre Dame has one ranked doubles pair in No. 26 Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson, who has also recorded 22 wins this season including five over ranked opponents.
Tickets to the first and second-round matches can be purchased in advance at 12thManFoundation.com or during business hours at the Athletic Ticket Office at Kyle Field or by calling the ticket office at 1-888-99-AGGIE or 979-845-2311. The team to advance out of the College Station Regional will compete in the NCAA Championship Team Finals held May 14 through 25 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas on the campus of Baylor.
Tournament matches will be regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played in best-of-three sets. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at seven-games-all in doubles and at six-games-all in singles.
Individual fields for the NCAA singles and doubles championships will be announced Wednesday at 5 p.m.
