Preston Morrison improved to 9-1 on the season after tossing 7 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two. Riley Ferrell allowed an unearned run on two hits, walked one and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings to record his 11th save of the season.
With a runner on first and one out, Connor Wanhanen hit a sharp hopper right at the pitcher for what looked like it would be an inning-ending double play. The tides turned when Parker French threw the ball into center and everyone was safe. Evan Skoug took a pitch off the leg to load the bases and Dane Steinhagen delivered a two-run single to left to put the Frogs in front, 2-0.
Texas wasted little time cutting into the TCU lead. Brooks Marlow led off the second with a triple and scored on a ground out off the bat of Zane Gurwitz to make it a 2-1 game after two.
The Frogs tacked on two more runs in the second to open up a three-run lead. Derek Odell, Keaton Jones and Cody Jones singled to load the bases with nobody out. Fagnan bounced a base hit through the left side to drive in a run and a misplay in left allowed Keaton Jones to score for a 4-1 lead.
After Texas cut the lead to two on a Bret Boswell solo home run in the top of the fourth, TCU got the run right back in the bottom of the inning. Cody Jones singled with one out and stole second. He scored easily on a double off the bat of Fagnan for a 5-2 lead.
TCU added another run in the fifth inning to push its lead to four, 6-2. Garrett Crain reached on a one-out single. He was standing on third after a base hit from Derek Odell. Keaton Jones lined a ball to center, deep enough for Crain to score.
Texas sent eight men to the plate and drew four walks en route to pushing across a pair of two-out runs in the eighth. With the bases loaded on three walks, Joe Baker worked a five-pitch free pass to drive in the first run of the inning. Facing a full count, Ben Johnson hit a high chopper for an infield single that made it a 6-4 game. Ferrell struck out Collin Shaw looking on three straight pitches to end the inning.
The Longhorns threatened again in the ninth as they had the tying run on first with nobody out after a hit and a walk. C.J. Hinojosa scored on a double play ball off the bat of Michael Cantu, but Ferrell got Zane Gurwitz swinging to end the game.
The victory improves TCU to 32-8 overall and 8-5 in Big 12 play.
