Alex Young (6-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out three in just four innings of work. Trey Teakell allowed a run on three hits and struck out two in three innings of work. Riley Ferrell struck out one and walked one in his lone inning of work.
TCU had a golden opportunity to take the early lead in the top of the third. Cody Jones singled with one out and was standing at third after a Connor Wanhanen base knock. TCU tried to execute a double steal, but Jones was cut down trying to break for home for the second out of the inning.
Conversely, Kansas State took advantage of its first scoring opportunity to push across the game's first run. Jake Wodtke reached on a lead-off error. A bunt single had two on with nobody out. After a sacrifice had both runners in scoring position, Tyler Wolfe grounded out to the right side to give Kansas State the 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats broke the game open with a four-run fifth. A walk followed by two hits loaded the bases with nobody out. Teakell came on in relief and got the first out easily. Wolfe hit a high chopper on the infield and the throw home was high, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly made it 3-0 and a two-out triple from Max Brown pushed the lead to five.
Kansas State added a two-out run in the seventh to push the lead to six. For the fourth time in the game, the lead-off batter reached and for the third time, he scored. Wodtke opened the inning with a base hit and stole second. Wolfe collected his third RBI in the game as he doubled with two outs to push the lead to 6-0.
TCU broke up the shutout with a pair of runs in the eighth. Garrett Crain drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a Jeremie Fagnan base hit. Cody Jones drove in the first run of the inning with a base hit through the left side. A two-out base knock from Evan Skoug made it a 6-2 contest.
With the loss, TCU falls to 26-8 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play. The Frogs will wrap up the four-game road swing Tuesday night at UT Arlington. Game time is set for 6:30 at Clay Gould Ballpark.
