FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football program honored its 2014 senior class at Saturday night's team banquet in the Brown-Lupton University Union.
The seniors had a 34-17 record while winning the 2014 Big 12 championship and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Both trophies were on display. The Horned Frogs also received their 2014 Big 12 championship rings.
In voting by his teammates, quarterback Trevone Boykin was selected as TCU's Dan Rogers Most Valuable Player. Boykin was the Horned Frogs' Offensive MVP for the second straight season, while Paul Dawson was voted the Defensive MVP. Place-kicker Jaden Oberkrom was named the Special Teams MVP for a third consecutive year.
Boykin, who won the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting, earned All-America honors from Walter Camp, Associated Press, USA Today, CBSSports.com and Phil Steele. He was also the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player. He was a finalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Boykin set TCU single-season records for passing yards (3,901), touchdown passes (33), touchdowns responsible for (42) and total offense (4,608). He was a four-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week while being named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week on three occasions. He received the award after passing for four scores and running for two in a 56-0 win at SMU and after his seven touchdown passes in an 82-27 victory over Texas Tech. He also won after totaling a career-high 559 yards of offense, including a 55-yard scoring grab, and five touchdowns in a 55-3 victory over Iowa State.
In a 41-20 win over Kansas State, Boykin passed for 219 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 123 yards and three scores. He was one of only four quarterbacks last season to have 200 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and three touchdown runs in a game.
Boykin ranked third in the nation in total offense at 354.5 yards per game. He became just the third quarterback since 2009 to average at least 300 yards per game passing (300.1) and 50 rushing (54.4). The others were Heisman Trophy winners Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel.
Dawson was a consensus first-team All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He was the only player in the nation in 2014 with at least 100 tackles, six sacks and four interceptions. His team-high 136 tackles, including 20 for loss, were the most by a Horned Frog in the 14-season tenure of head coach Gary Patterson.
Oberkrom was named the Special Teams Most Valuable Player for the third straight season. A first-team All-Big 12 selection and semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, Oberkrom was the nation's leading kick scorer with 142 points. He was 22-of-27 on field goals and 76-of-77 on PATs. His 37-yard field goal on the game's final snap gave TCU a 31-30 win at West Virginia.
Oberkrom's 58 career field goals top all active players nationally.
