No. 1 TCU Blanks Texas Southern, 1-0

Mitchell Traver was once again masterful in his second start of the season. The redshirt sophomore faced just one batter over the minimum through seven innings of work. He allowed a pair of one-out, third-inning singles and set the side down in order in the other six frames. Traver finished the night with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
Trey Teakell came on and pitched a perfect eighth inning before giving way to Riley Ferrell in the ninth. The junior issued a one-out walk, but fanned the final two batters to pick up his second save of the season. The save was the 20th of his career, tying the school record held by Sam Demel.
Texas Southern had just three base runners in the contest and only one advanced into scoring position. Javier Valdez singled with one out in the third and moved to second on a base hit from Christopher Scroggins. Traver worked out of the jam as he picked Valdez off second for the second out before getting a ground out to end the frame.
The Tigers' Felix Gomez held the Frogs in check for much of the game. Nolan Brown singled and stole second with two outs in the fifth, but was picked-off to end the inning. Jeremie Fagnan singled and stole second with one out in the sixth, but Gomez retired the next two batters to end the frame.
After retiring the first two batters in the seventh, Gomez fell behind in the count to Skoug. The freshman unloaded on a 3-1 offering and launched it over the right center field fence for the lone run of the game.
TCU improves to 7-1 on the season. The Frogs will continue their five-game homestand starting Friday night when they play host to Cal Poly. Game time for the series opener is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised on FSSW+.
