The Series
TCU and Texas Tech will play for the 125th time in program history Wednesday. The Red Raiders lead the all-time series, 76-48, but the Frogs have won five times in the last 13 meetings, including a 62-42 victory in January. The Frogs' series history against Tech ranks No. 7 among the lengthiest in the history of the program.
20-Point Games
Under head coach Trent Johnson, the Frogs have had a player go for 20 or more points in 24 different outings, which has now happened four times this season after Trey Zeigler's 20-point outing at Kansas. Zeigler is joined by Kyan Anderson, Amric Fields, Charles Hill Jr. and former Frog Garlon Green as the only TCU student-athletes to score 20 or more points under Johnson's watch.
The Dynamic Trio
Heading into Wednesday, senior's Kyan Anderson, Amric Fields and Trey Zeigler have formed quite the tandem during conference play on the offensive end. The trio has scored 424 of TCU's 868 points, which is 49 percent of the Purple and White's scoring in league play.
The Last Two Home Games
TCU, who has won back-to-back home league games, is shooting 52.7 percent from the field in its last two outings at home against Oklahoma State and K-State, while outscoring the two combined by an average of 14.5 points. In all, the Purple and White have now shot 50 percent or better in consecutive home games for the first time since early November.
Storylines = Victory
Several numbers have popped out on the stat page this season in regards to TCU having success in the win column. The Frogs are 9-2 when scoring 70 or more points in a game. TCU is also 14-3 overall when out-rebounding its opponents and has outshot its opponent percentage wise in all 16 victories.
Staggering D
Heading into Wednesday, TCU has put up some eye-popping numbers nationally on the defensive end of the court. The Frogs rank in the top-45 in the NCAA in blocks per game (No. 16), field goal percentage defense (No. 25), scoring defense (No. 42) and total blocks (No. 16).
Cleaning Up The Glass On The Offensive End
In the last nine games combined, the Frogs have out-rebounded Kansas (twice), West Virginia, Iowa State, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State and Kansas State in offensive rebounds by a combined 128-100. The Frogs, who rank No. 15 in the NCAA in offensive boards a game, have now grabbed 15 or more offensive boards in a game 10 times. At Kansas, the Frogs held a 12-5 advantage in offensive rebounds.
Getting To The Line
TCU has made it a point to get the charity stripe this season as the Frogs currently rank No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 3 in the NCAA in free throw attempts on the year, having shot 701 free throws on the season. Individually, Kyan Anderson has carried the Frogs at the line, shooting 86.1 percent, which ranks No. 1 in the conference and 33rd nationally.
Heating Up
With his 20-point outing at Kansas, senior Trey Zeigler has now posted double-digit outings in points in 11 out of the last 19 games, including six out of the last nine. In league games, Zeigler is averaging over 10 points per game, while shooting 46 percent from the floor. His season-high 20-point outing at Kansas marked the most points since scoring 22 against WMU on March 2, 2012.
Inside The Last Five
In seven out of TCU's 11 losses this season, the Frogs have either led or trailed by single-digits in the last 5 minutes of the ball game, but couldn't get the victory. The four times they didn't was against Texas twice and at Iowa State and Baylor, respectively, inside the last 5 minutes. In its 16 victories, TCU has never trailed in the last 5 minutes and only led by less than 10 four times against Bradley, Mississippi State, Furman and Oklahoma State. The Frogs led by as many as 16 in the final 5 minutes against Kansas State last Wednesday night.
Powering The Glass
TCU has out-rebounded 17 out of its 27 opponents this season. The Frogs only out-rebounded the opposition a total of eight times through 31 games a year ago. The Frogs have totaled 1,012 boards through 27 games. The Purple and White only rebounded 928 total all of last season. After 27 games in 2013-14, TCU was only averaging 30.2 boards a game. This season, the Frogs are averaging 37.5 rebounds a contest after 27 games, which ranks No. 44 in the NCAA.
Defensive Domination
In TCU's win at Texas Tech, the Frogs made some noise in the record books thanks to a dominating defensive effort. The Frogs held the Red Raiders to the fourth fewest points by an opponent on their home floor in school history. TCU hadn't held an opponent to 42 points away from Fort Worth since doing so at Texas A&M on March 4, 1958 and at Arkansas on Feb. 26, 1951.
