TCU Claims Desert Intercollegiate Title

The Horned Frogs entered Sunday's final round nine strokes behind No. 15 Texas Tech before carding the tournament's second-lowest round of the day at 5-under to edge the Red Raiders by one stroke and claim their first team title since winning the Desert Intercollegiate in 2013.
"This was really encouraging for us having four guys finish in the top 20," head coach Bill Montigel said. "Every day we had different guys step up. The weather turned on us down the stretch today and the guys handled it well."
Junior Paul Barjon led three Horned Frogs in the top 10 with a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish second overall, four strokes behind Texas Tech's Clement Sordet. Barjon, who rolled in four birdies and an eagle, posted the third-lowest 54-hole total of his career for his second top-five finish of the season.
Sophomore Chelso Barrett also carded a 3-under 69, catching fire on the back nine with four birdies en route to a fifth-place showing.
Senior Julien Brun, a two-time champion of the event, fired a 1-under 71 to move 12 spots to 10th place, marking his 27th-career top-10 finish.
Sophomore Giulio Castagnara finished with a 2-over 74 to close out play in 16th, marking his second-highest career finish, while senior Andrew Presley also carded a 74 in the final round.
The Frogs, currently ranked No. 35 nationally, return to action on Saturday at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
