Chris Del Conte |
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte chats live Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to submit their questions now.
TCU Moderator: Welcome to today's online chat with TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte. We'll begin shortly. |
Travis (Dallas): Is TCU ever going to join the other Big 12 schools by sponsoring the sport of softball? |
Chris Del Conte: We just added sand volleyball which begins its inaugural season this spring. There are no current plans to add softball. |
Taylor (Denver): I saw on Twitter you are being added to the D1 College baseball committee (might have butchered the official title). What exactly does that entail for you? Thanks for all the great work you do! Best AD in the nation. Go Frogs! |
Chris Del Conte: Thank you for your support. I just got selected to be on the committee and have yet to attend my first meeting. The committee will select the 64 teams that will play in the postseason. |
Chris Del Conte: Retail buying season for fall is done in winter of the previous year. There's no doubt our Big 12 and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl championships will be a driving factor in retailers buying licensed TCU gear. |
JP (Dallas): Can we get a composite schedule and live score and results box back on the gofrogs.com home page? It would also be great if it included all TV/radio/web broadcast info, when available. |
Chris Del Conte: The composite schedule will return on our home page shortly. It's being redone with our newly redesigned site. The TV/radio/web broadcast info is under the FOX Sports link. |
Keith - Fort Worth: Could we get a better baseball selection from the online store? How about a Lupton field flag, or #toad2omaha shirts? The selection is better than last year, but....
Let's crank it up and support the Omaha Bound Team! |
Chris Del Conte: Thank you for your acknowledgment of the strides we've made. We'll take your thoughts into consideration during our conversations with our merchandiser. |
Chris Del Conte: That's been a topic of discussion with Coach Schlossnagle. He's more concerned with our student-athletes making good contact instead of hitting home runs. |
FrogAbroad (Guatemala City): In spite of significant bandwidth upgrades that allow me to access many other streaming video sites, FrogVision has been dreadful this year! I rarely get any video, sometimes just audio, and lately barely GameTracker. Is there any hope for improvement or should I go ahead and drop my subscription for the second time? |
Chris Del Conte: We are aware of the issues we have with the video stream of our baseball games and apologize for your frustration. We are working to resolve the problem. |
Matt (Mansfield): Are there any plans to expand seating at Lupton in the near future? |
Chris Del Conte: At this time, we have no plans to expand seating at Lupton Stadium. We did add 1,000 seats to the upper deck after our first trip to the College World Series in 2010. |
Justin(HaltomCity): Will there be a meet the frogs event after the spring football game/open practice? Will the fans be allowed to bring stuff to be signed by the team? Other TCU sports allow student athletes to autograph stuff besides TCU supplied posters. Why are the rules different for the football team? |
Chris Del Conte: Yes. We will have a Meet The Frogs event. Plans are being finalized as I type this note. We'll have the details ready to announce shortly. Because of the high-profile nature of football, our compliance office has recommended we limit autographs to a University-supplied item. |
Matt: Any chance of players getting their numbers retired for baseball or at least honor their number? Number 14 comes to mind and could do something simple by putting their number on the outfield wall. |
Chris Del Conte: Matt: No. 14 is certainly worthy of consideration and we'll keep it mind. #GoCardinals |
James: I am sure you are busy fundraising for the player facilities for the baseball team but recently heard that the U of H was constructing the largest video board in baseball. So I was just wondering if a new video board was in the plans? The current one in place was built in 2006 and during the opening weekend there were black spots in the middle. |
Chris Del Conte: Phase 2 of our baseball project is ongoing with fundraising. We are aware that our video board could be an item added to the ever-growing list of future renovations. |
Murray (Dallas): When it comes to queso are you a dipper or a scooper? |
Chris Del Conte: As my friend George Costanza once learned, you never double dip. |
Jim: I was looking at the Licensed marks on go frogs and saw that there were no throwback logos there. Can I create a shirt with the flying t logo and not need a license? |
Chris Del Conte: We are working with our licensing partners and will soon launch a program that will house our retired logos and marks. |
Joe: Will there be a new court for DMC? I know it was recently redone but I think it would be cool if there was a fan vote on the court design. Many teams have done that recently. |
Chris Del Conte: You're speaking my language! We'll be announcing a contest shortly in which fans can vote on the design of our new court. |
Adam: Do you golf an if so what is your favorite course to play that isn't a private course? |
Chris Del Conte: I am not a golfer. I'll defer that question to Shooter McGavin. |
tcumaniac: Can you confirm that we are getting new uniforms for football this year? |
Chris Del Conte: I cannot confirm or deny that. |
Kris: Can we have another bubblehead day? Haven't had one since the old Conference USA days. Would love to have one for Superfrog in a baseball uniform. It was a great marketing idea of having vouchers given at the gate so fans have to come to a second game if they to receive the item. |
Chris Del Conte: I too am a big fan of bobbleheads and will pass along the suggestion to our marketing department. |
Tommy: Have you ever thought of creating a monthly TCU athletics magazine? Could sell advertising spots for sponsors, sell subscriptions and could hire some journalism majors as interns to assist in the creation of it. |
Chris Del Conte: I've actually thrown out the idea of perhaps a quarterly magazine to highlight TCU Athletics. With all the technology currently available, though, it hasn't got much traction. |
Jack (Dallas): Any plans to add wifi to the parking lots before football games?
It would help with tailgating and it could be turned off at game time to drive people inside. |
Chris Del Conte: There are no plans yet, but I like the idea. |
Scott (Dallas): Where has the list of non-conference teams we will play in future years been moved to on gofrogs.com? I can't find it any more. |
Chris Del Conte: That's a good question. I'll ask our multi-media department why that was omitted in the redesign of our website. |
Sandora: I just want to say you hit a home run with the Coach Pebley hire. |
Chris Del Conte: Thanks Sandora! Raegan Pebley has been a great addition to the TCU family. |
Martin (Dallas): Can you please tell me what is going to be done to help with traffic around lots 3, 4 and 5 after football games. With the new parking garage going in, it is just going to add more cars to the area. It already can take 45 minutes just to get out of the lot at the end of a game. Interested in hearing what the plans are for next season. Go Frogs! |
Chris Del Conte: We are aware of the situation and will address that this summer when we meet with our game operations staff. |
TCU Moderator: That concludes today's online chat with Chris Del Conte. Thanks for joining us. |
