FORT WORTH - A stellar pitching performance from four TCU pitchers and another early offensive explosion helped the Horned Frogs sweep Southern Illinois with an 11-0 victory. The TCU pitching staff limited the Salukis to just four runs (one earned) over the weekend.

Alex Young (1-0) starred on the mound as he pitched six shutout innings. The junior allowed just five base runners and never faced more than four batters in an inning. Young surrendered three hits, walked a batter and struck out four. The combination of Ryan Burnett, Trey Teakell and Riley Ferrell retired all nine batters they faced.

Southern Illinois had just five base runners in the entire game and only one advanced to second. A sixth inning, one out single was the last base runner the Salukis had as the final 11 were retired by the TCU pitchers.

A walk, a hit batter and an error proved costly to the Salukis as TCU jumped out to an early first inning lead. Head's up base running from Connor Wanhanen allowed him to score on the error to give TCU the 1-0 lead. A line drive double from Garrett Crain pushed the lead to two and a groundout from Keaton Jones made it a 3-0 game.

Twelve men came to the plate in the third for the Frogs and seven scored to give TCU a commanding 10-0 lead. Derek Odell got the frame started with a double to left. Crain's second two-base hit drove in Odell and he scored easily on a base knock from Nolan Brown. A walk put runners on the corners for Elliott Barzilli, who delivered an RBI single for a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Wanhanen laced a two-run single to left. Odell's second hit of the inning made it 9-0 and an error allowed the final run of the frame to score.

The Frogs plated their final run of the game in the sixth inning. With two outs Keaton Jones lined a base hit into left field. After a wild pitch moved him to second, Barzilli came through with a single to right center for an 11-0 lead.

TCU will conclude its four-game homestand to open the season Tuesday night when it plays host to crosstown rival, UT Arlington. First pitch at Lupton Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
