Li shot a 599 in air rifle en route to a 1,182 aggregate score. She missed perfection by the smallest of increments as she fired a 9.9. The performance also comes on the heels of Mindy Miles' 600 at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships last weekend. Li has shot a 590 or better in nine of 13 matches on the year.
The Horned Frogs' 2,370-point tally in air rifle had not been accomplished since hitting the same score on Nov. 17, 2012, which was also when the squad set the program record of 4,708 aggregate points in a match.
Miles, who is averaging a 596 over her last four performances on the range, provided another strong outing in the air rifle discipline with a 593-point showing while Hannah Black (592) and Kelly Bogart (586) assisted in the effort. Nicholle Benedict tied a personal-best by shooting a 580. She did so both at the PRC finals and against Jacksonville State and Murray State on Oct. 25.
Li was also the standard-bearer for TCU in smallbore, shooting a 583. Ariana Grabowski was right behind after shooting a 576.
The match was the final one in Fort Worth for seniors Claudia Duksa and Lydia McGarva, who each competed. Duksa shot a 572 in smallbore.
UTEP got a pair of stellar performances in each discipline from Amy Bock and Rachael Schoenrock. Bock led the squad with a 588-point air rifle showing, while Schoenrock did the same in smallbore (585). They also added 576 and 584-point performances in their opposite disciplines, respectively.
TCU will look to build off its season-sweep of UTEP when it heads to Colorado Springs for its NCAA Qualifier tilt with Air Force. The Horned Frogs faced off with the Falcons and two other teams Feb. 5-6 before competing in the PRC Championships there Feb. 7-8.
