TCU Falls at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Butler defeated TCU 65-53 at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday night as the Frogs shot just 31.8 percent in the loss. Senior Zahna Medley had a team-high 13 points for the Frogs, hitting three three-point field goals in the game, and added five rebounds.
Sophomore Toree Thompson had a basket with 1:07 to go in the first quarter that tied the game at 12-12. Medley then knocked down a three to open the second quarter and give the Frogs their first lead of the ballgame at 15-12. Those two baskets were the start of a 13-2 run for the Frogs that helped TCU open a 23-14 lead that quickly extended to double figures at 26-16 thanks to a three from senior Caitlin Diaz.
The Bulldogs answered with 11 straight to go up one at 27-26 before Medley knocked down a three to go up 29-27 with 24 seconds remaining in the half. Butler's Blaire Langlois answered with a basket with three seconds left in the half to settle the halftime score at 29-29.
The Frogs shot just 34.3 percent in the opening half but used eight offensive rebounds to get eight second chance points and forced the Bulldogs into 11 turnovers.
Butler built a five point lead at 40-35 midway through the third quarter before a Jada Butts pullup, Veja Hamilton bucket in transition and a Thompson pullup put TCU up 41-40 with 3:45 to go in the period. Butler answered with five straight before Sydney Coleman's jumper from the corner at the buzzer pulled the Frogs within 45-43 heading to the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Butler opened the fourth quarter by scoring 11 straight in the first four minutes to extend their lead to 13 at 56-43 before Medley ended the run with a three with 6:00 to go.
NOTES
Butler's Belle Obert had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in the game to post a triple-double. She also had six steals.
TCU had four players record eight points or more in the game.
Butler had 13 blocks as a team.
TCU used the lineup of Caitlin Diaz, Jordan Moore, Veja Hamitlon, Zahna Medley and Jada Butts for the first time this season.
TCU shot just 21-of-66 in the game, a 31.8 percent clip. It was a season low for the Frogs.
o TCU opened 1-of-10 from the field in the opening minutes of the game and were just 5-of-22 in the opening quarter of the game.
