TCU Takes Two Wins In Dual Meet

"Our team really raced well," head coach Richard Sybesma said. "I was very pleased with how we performed."
The Horned Frogs opened the meet with first place finishes in the men and women's 200-yard medley relay. Freshmen Madison Ibrahim, Micaela Roemer, Alexandra Robertson and sophomore Devin Newton combined to earn first by less than a second over Liberty in the first event.
Overall, TCU earned garnered first place in 14 of the 26 events.
"It's early in the season, and I'm pleased with our times," said Sybesma. "Our kids have raced hard."
Senior Mikayla Winkler placed first in the 200-yard freestyle after clocking in at 1:53.17. Freshman Catherine Maxey followed closely at 1:54.81, earning second.
Freshman Leo Sanchez continued TCU's success by placing first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.50. In the 50-yard freestyle, the Frogs swept and earned the top-three times. Junior Garrett Hills finished first at 21.13 with sophomore John Smith and freshman Jonathan Drewes following suit.
Freshman Tommy Thach had another impressive performance. Thach placed first in the 200 IM (1:51.25), 100-yard freestyle (46.26) and the 100 IM (52.83).
Senior Kristen Connolly set a school-record in the 1-meter dive after scoring a 321.30. Jennifer Ferguson set the previous record of 315.67 in 2007. Connolly later earned a first-place score of 302.10 in the 3-meter dive.
Freshman Andrew Shurtleff also placed first in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 332.55 and 336.23, respectively.
Senior Ford Story led the way during the 100-yard breaststroke, earning a first-place time of 57.77.
The meet ended with the men taking first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Horned Frogs return to action on Oct. 16 as the women head to Dallas for a two-day meet against SMU.
