"The women were aggressive in attacking the hills both up and down and did a good job of working together again," coach Jennifer Fazioli said.
Sophomore Bailey Sullivan led the Horned Frog pack through the hilly course in Austin. Sullivan finished at 19:27.50, placing 14th out of 64. Sophomore Nicole Hicks was close behind at 18th, clocking in at 19:36.00.
Freshman Maddie Weinstock "had an especially strong race and moved up the entire race." Weinstock finished 23rd with a 19:41.50 time. Freshman Emily Suarez also found success as she completed the race at 19:56.30, garnering a 28th-place finish. Freshman Erin Barth, battling an ankle injury, finished 40th with a time of 20:29.80.
"The women competed well, and if Erin had not rolled her ankle earlier in the week, she would have been up farther in the pack and most likely moving us into fourth and competing for third," said Fazioli.
For the men at the Longhorn Invitational, sophomore Dillon Smith finished the 8,000-meter race with a 47th-place finish at 27:40.90. The men's team competed without sophomore Matt Brown and freshman Eric Vetere due to injuries.
Junior Ryan Spetnagel placed 54th in 28:16.80 right behind sophomore Dylan Larkin (28:14.10).
"Ryan demonstrated some nice progression from earlier in the year," Fazioli said.
