FORT WORTH – The No. 3-ranked TCU rifle team wraps up a three-match road trip to open the season Sunday at The Citadel. The Horned Frogs have come out on top in each of their first two matches of the season.
The Frogs have put up back-to-back dominating performances in their opening two matches of the season. They took home first-place finishes at the Tiger Open and the Ole Miss Invite after shooting identical team shores of 4,696.
Many different individuals have sparkled on the shooting range in the early in the season. At Memphis, Mindy Miles and freshman Rachel Garner took top spot in air rifle and smallbore, respectively. In the Ole Miss Invite, it was Miles again and Hannah Black who took home first-place finishes in air rifle and smallbore, respectively.
Over the weekend, five Horned Frogs established personal bests in aggregate score. Black topped her career high of 1,181 with a 1,185 on Sunday, while Barrett Ray established her career-high with a 1,163. Miles bettered her personal best of 1,175 with an aggregate score of 1,178 at Memphis. Also establishing personal bests at Memphis were Nicole Hankey (1,172) and Garner (1,178).
The Citadel will be hosting its first match of the 2015-16 season on Sunday. The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of solid performances to open the season. They finished fourth (ment) and sixth (women) at the first SEAR Conference meet hosted by VMI. The two teams put together a better showing in the second conference meet hosted by Georgia Military. The men finished first, while the women turned in a fourth place finish.
TCU will be competing just against the men's team this weekend. Sophomore Morgan Long tied for the team's top spot in air rifle last weekend, while Patrick Meyer was one of the top shooters in smallbore. The Bulldogs will also send junior Richie Parra, sophomore Christian Romero and freshman Tommy Simrill to the firing line on Sunday.
The match is slated to begin at 8:30 (CT) at the Inouye Marksmanship Center on The Citadel campus.
