FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 37 TCU men's tennis team will open the 2015 ITA National Kick-Off Weekend by traveling to College Station, Texas to take on No. 10 Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m., at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (1-0) and the host Aggies (0-0) will be the second match of the day, with LSU and San Diego also on hand and the winner of the four-team tournament advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 12-15.
TCU Noteables
TCU is coming off a commanding 6-1 victory over UCSB to open the 2015 spring season. The Frogs were able to easily take the doubles point, before claiming five of the six singles matches to capture the victory.
The Frogs go into the 2015 spring season with multiple players earning ITA national rankings. Freshman Cameron Norrie, who swept the singles and doubles ITA Texas Regional titles this past fall, earned a singles ranking of No. 24, while also pairing with Trevor Johnson for a doubles ranking of No. 15.
The senior doubles duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein earned a No. 20 ranking, while Stein gained a singles ranking for the first time in his career at No. 91. Guillermo Nuñez is also ranked in the singles poll at No. 87, while Johnson also earned a doubles ranking of No. 47 with Blake Wiggins.
Scouting Texas A&M
With five of their top six players and two of their three doubles pairs back this season, the Aggies set their sights on putting the disappointment of last year's second round exit from the NCAA Championships behind them.
Texas A&M's top four players are nationally ranked to start the spring, including Harrison Adams at No. 29 and Shane Vinsant at No. 45. Adams and Vinsant are set to be the team's top doubles duo this season with a national ranking of No. 25, but Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo are also ranked No. 18 following a strong fall campaign.
All-Time Series
TCU and the Aggies are meeting up for the 53rd time in program history on Saturday, with the Frogs holding a 34-18 advantage in the series. Texas A&M has been dominant in the series in the last few years, with the Aggies claiming victory in the last eight matchups. TCU last defeated the Aggies on March 22, 2006 with a 4-3 win in College Station.
