LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The American Football Coaches Association has named TCU's Gary Patterson as its 2014 FBS Coach of the Year.
The AFCA Coach of the Year award is the only one chosen exclusively by the coaches themselves. It's the second time in six seasons that Patterson has received the honor. He was also the 2009 recipient.
Patterson led the Horned Frogs to their first Big 12 championship in just their third season in the conference. TCU was picked seventh in the preseason Big 12 poll.
The Horned Frogs' all-time winningest coach with 132 victories, Patterson has now won six conference championships in three different leagues as TCU's head coach.
Patterson guided the Horned Frogs (12-1) to the 12-win mark for the third time in the last six seasons and a No. 3 final ranking in the Associated Press and Amway USA Today Coaches polls.
Patterson's .746 winning percentage (132-45) ranks fourth among active coaches nationally (minimum 10 years). He is one of just five active coaches with at least 100 victories at their current school. TCU is 30-3 when taking the field as a top-10 team under Patterson, including a 19-1 mark when in the top 5.
In addition to being the AFCA Coach of the Year, Patterson has received the 2014 Eddie Robinson Award while also being recognized this season as the Coach of the Year by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, AP, ESPN/Home Depot, CBSSports.com and Scout.com. He is also the Woody Hayes Award recipient in addition to being a finalist for the Bobby Dodd Award and Paul "Bear" Bryant Award. He was also the Chuck Neinas Big 12 Coach of the Year as well as the AP Big 12 Coach of the Year.
The nation's fifth-longest tenured head coach, Patterson has won a total of 18 National Coach of the Year honors at TCU.
