GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The TCU cross country women's and men's teams paced to third and fourth-place finishes, respectively, at the UT-Arlington Season Opener on Saturday.
The women's team had three freshmen place in the top 11 in their 5,000-meter race.
"I was really happy with the overall performance of the team," coach Laura Harmon said. "They went out and weren't afraid to compete and trusted the fitness gains that they have started to make from workouts."
Bailey Sullivan led the way for the Frogs as she posted a ninth-place finish with a time of 18:18.4. Anna Cozart and Dominique Tilly followed closely after with 10th and 11th place-times, respectively.
The TCU women finished ahead of UT-Arlington and UNT, and only five points back of second-place Baylor.
"The women showed a lot of improvement and beat some teams," Harmon said. "I think from there, we need to look at trying to beat teams from the Big 12 and I know that is something that we can do."
On the men's side, freshmen Matthew Brown and Dylan Larkin finished three seconds apart en route to top-20 finishes for the Frogs. Brown finished the men's 5,000-meter race at 16:05.1, with Larkin at 16:08.2.
"The men's team went out and competed really well," Harmon added. "We were much closer to the other teams and if we can have a tighter pack, we will start to pass those teams."
TCU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Ken Garland Invitational in Denton.
