WHITE OUT
As a reminder, Saturday is a White Out for our 3 p.m. home football game versus Minnesota. Make sure to arrive early, be loud, stay late and wear white.
SATURDAY TIPS
With our first afternoon kickoff of the season, we'll have the debut of our expanded post-game tailgating hours. The parking lots, which will open at 10 a.m., will remain open for three hours after the game. Shuttles will be running from Lots 13 and 14. Please also note that Sections 120, 121 and 128 in the lower east side are now reserved for season-ticket holders. It was student general admission in the past. Additional staff will be on site to help direct students and fans to their correct sections. Also, don't forget our new policy this year of allowing everyone to bring in one unopened bottle of water.
MUST SEE TV
Our new Inside TCU Football with Gary Patterson show makes its debut Thursday at 3:30 p.m. CDT on FOX Sports Southwest. Make sure to check your local listings for viewing availability and all subsequent airings after Thursday.
HALL OF FAME RECOGNITON
Please remain in your seats at halftime of the Minnesota game as we recognize our 2014 TCU Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame class: Nick Browne (football/soccer), R.E. Dodson (football), Michael Frater (track and field), Ellie Gibson (women's golf), Adam Rubinson (men's golf) and Walter Soza (swimming and diving).
BASKETBALL SEASON APPROACHING
Our men's basketball season-ticket renewal period is underway. Please Click Here to renew online. We will soon be mailing renewal information. Note the Oct. 17 deadline to renew. To maintain your seats when we move into our new basketball facility in 2015-16, you must renew the same quantity of tickets for this season.
GREAT CROWDS
It was incredibly rewarding to see the support shown our soccer and volleyball programs when both were home last weekend. TCU was truly a gathering place Friday night as Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium and the Rec Center were packed, and you made a difference as soccer defeated LSU, 2-0, and volleyball knocked off Miami (Fla.) in a five-set thriller. Kudos to our marketing folks on a continued job well done! We've led the Big 12 in soccer attendance our first two seasons in the conference and have also been annually ranked among the national leaders in volleyball attendance.
BIG 12 HONOR ROLL
Congratulations to soccer goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold on being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts over LSU and Abilene Christian. The senior from Mesquite, Texas, stopped 11 shots in the process.
THE CALL UP
It was great to see Brandon Finnegan make his major league debut for the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium on national television Saturday afternoon. He looked as good in a Royals' uniform as he did for the Horned Frogs the last three seasons, striking out Jacoby Ellsbury and the great Derek Jeter as part of retiring all six batters he faced. It's an incredible journey for Brandon to be on the mound in a major league game, for a first-place team, just over two months after pitching in the College World Series.
ON THE DOCKET
Our lone home event this weekend is Saturday's 3 p.m. football game with Minnesota. Soccer, coming off back-to-back shutout victories of LSU and Abilene Christian, has Friday and Sunday night games at Texas State and Sam Houston State, respectively. Volleyball, having won five of its last six matches, travels to South Bend, Ind., for Notre Dame's Shamrock Invitational. We'll face the Fighting Irish on Friday night, before Saturday matches versus Northern Iowa and Northeastern. Cross country will compete Saturday at UTA, while both our men's and women's tennis programs will be represented at the Midland Invitational.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: It was Tom Cruise, as our favorite bartender in Cocktail, who said, "I am the last barman poet."
This Week: "Oh, that Barney Rubble. What an actor."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
The Ocean State University (OSU) volleyball team is hosting two teams this weekend. Here is the schedule:
OSU will play Team A Friday night.
Team A will play Team B Saturday afternoon.
OSU will play Team B Sunday afternoon.
The OSU coaches would like to scout during Saturday's game. Is this permissible?
Yes. NCAA Staff Interpretation - 9/9/13 - On-Campus, In-Person Scouting of Opponents (I) - states that the prohibition against off-campus, in-person scouting of opponents is not applicable to an institution's coaching staff in a situation in which a competition involving a future opponent occurs on the coaching staff's campus.
