Tyler Alexander (1-1) turned in a career-high six innings in his second start of the season. The freshman allowed just one run on five hits, walked one, hit a batter and struck out two. The victory was the first of his career. Trey Teakell retired all nine batters he faced to notch his first career save. The junior tallied four strikeouts in his outing.
UTSA took an early 1-0 lead as three of the first four batters reached in the first. John Welborn led off the game with a base hit and moved to second on an error. Jesse Baker doubled in Welborn to put the Roadrunners up 1-0. Alexander minimized the damage, getting a shallow fly ball and a strikeout to end the inning.
TCU wasted no time rallying back to take the lead. Cody Jones led off with a base hit. Connor Castellano walked and Boomer White reached on an infield single to load the bases. Derek Odell bounced a single up the middle with one out to tie the game and Jerrick Suiter beat out a potential double play ball to give the Frogs a 2-1 lead.
The Horned Frogs added to their lead in the bottom of the second. Keaton Jones started the frame with a base hit. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases. With one out, White lined a single into right to drive in the third run and Kevin Cron grounded out to make it a 4-1 game.
Two errors proved costly for the Roadrunners in the third as the Frogs added an unearned run to open up a 5-1 cushion. Keaton Jones reached on a two-out, two-base error and scored easily on a Kyle Bacak base hit.
Following a two-out walk in the fourth inning, the combination of Alexander and Teakell retired the final 16 batters they faced in the game.
TCU (6-1) will make a brief stop at home Tuesday night to host crosstown rival, UT Arlington. First pitch at Lupton Stadium is set for 6:30. The game will be televised on FSSW+
