FORT WORTH - Two members of the TCU baseball team were recognized on Collegiate Baseball's Louisville Slugger preseason All-American team. Junior Riley Ferrell was projected as the National Player of the Year, while Preston Morrison earned first-team honors.
Ferrell is coming off a spectacular sophomore campaign that saw him set the single-season school record with 15 saves. He finished the season with a 3-1 record to go along with a 0.79 ERA in 31 appearances. Ferrell ranked fourth on the team with 70 strikeouts in just 45 1/3 innings pitched.
He opens the 2015 season in hot pursuit of the school career record for saves. Ferrell needs just three to surpass Sam Demel's career total of 20.
Morrison will be looking to put the finishing touches on a dominating career in the Purple and White. As a junior, he went 9-4 in 18 starts with a miniscule 1.32 ERA in 129 2/3 innings pitched. Along the way, he racked up 95 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .197 batting average against.
He, too, will be chasing career records in 2015. He needs just 36 innings pitched to be the all-time leader. He already ranks fifth all-time with 35 career wins and is 46 strikeouts away from cracking the top five. His career ERA of 1.62 is third all-time.
The 2015 season gets underway Feb. 13 when the Horned Frogs open at home against Southern Illinois.
