NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin as one of 15 "Players to Watch" for its 2014 Player of the Year Award, the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation.
Boykin ranks first in the Big 12 and third nationally in total offense at 356.9 yards per game. He is just the third quarterback since 2009 to average over 300 yards per game passing (302.1) and 50 yards per game rushing (54.8). The others were Heisman Trophy winners Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel.
A junior from Dallas, Boykin has thrown 24 touchdown passes with just five interceptions. He has set TCU single-season records for total offense (3,569 yards) and passing yards (3,021). He also broke the Horned Frogs' career mark with six 300-yard passing games. He is second on TCU in rushing this season with 548 yards and seven touchdowns on a 4.5 per carry mark.
TCU has the nation's most-improved offensive unit this season in both total offense (+196.8 yards per game) and scoring (+20.8 points per game). The Horned Frogs are fourth in the nation in both categories, averaging 541.6 yards per game of total offense and 45.9 points per game.
