FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU football coach Gary Patterson held his weekly news conference on Tuesday in the Four Sevens Team. The Horned Frogs are at Kansas on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Included below are excerpts from Patterson's meeting with the media.
Opening Statement ...
"It's game 10. We have to get a win in Kansas and keep moving forward. Those are the things we have control over."
On TCU being in the national spotlight ...
"One of the things we wanted to become is relevant again. I'm proud of my kids, the University and the city. Right now, we're just trying to get to 9-1. I can plead a lot better case if we win the next three games. I just need to find a way to beat Kansas and do the things we need to do."
On having to give a motivational speech every week ...
"Last week, I knew I didn't have to say much. This week, for one, you're going on the road and coming off of two emotional games. So, you wouldn't think with everything in front of you, you shouldn't have to get them up to play a game on Saturday. You wouldn't think that you have to go do that but I'll know by Thursday if I need to do that or not."
On how Kansas has changed since its coaching change ...
"No. 1, quarterback. They also moved (Tony) Pierson back to tailback, which has made a big difference. They've been playing very well defensively all year. You have to give Coach Clint Bowen a lot of credit. I think he probably needs to have a lot of consideration because he loves Kansas. The kids have rallied behind him, and they've played hard. He's also a Jayhawk. He understands all of it. He believes in it, has got the kids to believe in what they do and they've been playing well."
On if TCU has a target on its backs ...
"It's a lot easier to be the hunter than the hunted. It's always been that way, no matter what conference we've been in. You always get everybody's best shot. You can make Kansas' season. Texas can get bowl eligible and also show what they can do and Iowa State.
"It's just part of what you deal with. That's why you don't worry about it. I can only worry that the team I put on the field on Saturday plays the best it can. That's all I can control. You better just take care of yourself, because that's all you have control over. I don't have control over anything else. We just have to be the best football team we can.
"Nobody thought about us until after the Oklahoma game. That's what I've told them. Remember where you came from and just watch the bottom of the pyramid, because that's what counts. If we take care of ourselves, play as hard as we can and do what we need to do, it will all play out."
