OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the nation's top defensive back, has announced TCU safety Sam Carter as a semifinalist for this year's honor.
Carter, a graduate student, is a two-time All-Big 12 selection. His 11 interceptions over the last three seasons top all Big 12 players.
A New Orleans native, Carter is among the TCU leaders with 31 tackles. He has two interceptions and two pass breakups to go with a pair of quarterback hurries.
Carter has started all 32 games TCU has played over the last three seasons.
TCU has a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist for the second straight year. First-team All-American and San Diego Chargers' first-round draft pick Jason Verrett was a 2013 semifinalist. Fellow TCU All-American Tejay Johnson was a 2010 finalist.
