FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU rifle freshman Mindy Miles returned from competing in the Air Rifle event at the Championship of the Americas in Guadalajara Mexico. Former Horned Frog Sarah Beard was also competed in the event.
The Championship of the Americas is one of the few international competitions that include a team event. The women's team consisted of Miles, Beard and Meredith Carpentier (Air Force). The team posted a 10-point victory after shooting an event-record 1243.3.
In the individual qualification round both Miles (412.1) and Beard (416.1) qualified for the final. The final consists of the top eight scorers from the elimination round. During the final round, elimination scores are discarded and competitors shoot an additional 20 shots. The shots are taken where the shooter with the lowest score is eliminated after the first 8 shots and every two shots after.
After a hard fought final round Miles finished in seventh place, while Beard won the bronze. Miles and Beard also earned their Minimum Qualifying Score at the competition that is required to be eligible to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games.
TCU Junior Hannah Black will be representing TCU/USA in the Women's 3x20 events where she can earn the Minimum Qualifying Score for the qualification of the 2016 Olympic Games.
