FORT WORTH - The TCU Rifle team will hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday, when the Horned Frogs travel to Morgantown, W.V., to take on defending national champion and top-ranked West Virginia.
The match will serve as the Mountaineers' season opener, while TCU is coming off a 4,657-4,610 win over Army in Fort Worth last week.
The victory over the Black Knights was the Horned Frogs' 10th consecutive season-opening win. Hannah Black set personal-bests in air rifle (591) and aggregate (1,172). Last year's top shooter, Sally Li picked up where she left off as she contributed a 591.
Mindy Miles and Ariana Grabowski produced solid outings in their first collegiate appearances, firing a 588 and 583 in air rifle, respectively. Grabowski also produced a 579 in smallbore while earning the distinction as the only shooter in the match for either team to collect a perfect 200 in prone position.
West Virginia brings five first-team All-Americans into the match in seniors Taylor Ciotola, Ziva Dvorsak, Meelis Kiisk, Maren Prediger and Garrett Spurgeon.
Dvorsak led the Mountaineers in air rifle (596), smallbore (584), and aggregate (1,180) a year ago. Spurgeon was second in each respective category with a 584, 591 and 1,176 tally.
TCU and West Virginia have not competed head-to-head in the regular season since Jan. 29, 2012, when the eventual national champion Horned Frogs took a 4,701-4,669 victory in a battle of undefeated squads.
