HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We hope everyone enjoyed a very happy and safe holiday season! Big 12 basketball is now in full swing, and we're looking forward to having all our students back on campus next week.
TOWN HALL MEETING
Please mark your calendar for the evening of Monday, Feb. 3. We'll be holding a Town Hall Meeting in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum to provide an update on your investment in TCU Athletics and to answer any questions you might have. Some of the topics to be covered in our "State of TCU Athletics" address include the DMC renovation, football seating and parking and the feedback received from our recent season-ticket holder survey. If there are certain items you'd like to see on the agenda, please email them to frogclub@tcu.edu. More information will be coming soon. We just want to give you a heads-up to save the date.
BASEBALL SEASON TICKET REMINDER
If you haven't done so already, the deadline to renew your baseball season tickets is Friday. The Feb. 14 season opener versus Jacksonville at Lupton Stadium is rapidly approaching
NOMAR TO SPEAK
One of our more popular traditions each year is our baseball program's First Pitch Banquet. This year's event will be held Friday, Feb. 7, at the Omni Hotel in downtown Fort Worth with former major league All-Star Nomar Garciaparra as the featured speaker.
NEW SPORT
As I'm sure you've heard, sand volleyball is on its way to TCU! We'll be one of 10 schools adding sand volleyball next spring, joining the 39 other programs already in existence. This continues to make sand volleyball the fastest growing sport in NCAA Division I history.
LET'S TALK
Please join me today at 3 p.m. for a special social media edition of our monthly online chat. Questions can be tweeted to me at @_delconte. If you're not on Twitter, you can still follow along at this link: https://twitter.com/_delconte.
BAND WATCH
With our band, like all TCU students, on holiday break, we want to thank the Dallas Skyline High School Band for filling in again at last night's men's basketball game against Kansas State. The boys and girls from Skyline were truly awesome at both their appearances in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. We very much appreciate them becoming honorary Horned Frogs for us.
DID YOU KNOW?
As we celebrate the final year of the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in its current state, did you know our longtime basketball home once hosted concerts by legendary music groups Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead? As former TCU Frog Club director Mark Mourer wrote in a 2010 TCU Magazine piece, rock historians noted the Grateful Dead's Nov. 14, 1971 date in the DMC had a strong influence in the group becoming a touring band.
ON THE DOCKET
Fresh off its 65-54 Sunday win at Texas Tech, our women's basketball program returns to action tonight with a 7 p.m. home game versus Kansas. This is the final game with our $5 Holiday Break general admission seats. Both the men and women will be in Waco on Saturday for a day-night doubleheader against Baylor. The men tip at 12:30 p.m. with the women at 7 p.m. The men's game can be seen in the DFW market on Channel 21 as part of the Big 12 Network. If you're outside the area, please check your local listings. Men's tennis, ranked 39th nationally, opens its spring season Thursday in Orlando, Fla., at the UCF Hidden Dual. We'll take on Indiana, Louisville and Rice in the four-team tournament. Our swimming and diving programs are also in Florida for winter training, which includes a Thursday meet with Manhattan.
BIG 12 CORNER
The Big 12 is tied for the national lead among conferences with five men's basketball teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. The Big 12 continues to be No. 1 in the country in the RPI for men's basketball.
MEET THE STAFF
If you've called our main number in the athletics office over the last 13 years, you've undoubtedly spoken to administrative assistant Terri Cain. The Fort Worth native has worked 16 years overall on campus. Terri and husband Frank have been married 36 years and are both TCU graduates, as are their three children. There's no doubt Terri and Frank's 20-month-old granddaughter Ella will also be headed our way. When she's not manning the phones in the John Justin Athletic Center lobby, Terri enjoys spending time with Ella and reading.
SPANNING THE GLOBE
If there are photos of you or family and friends flashing the Horned Frogs hand sign or wearing TCU apparel from all points worldwide, please send them my way (delconte@tcu.edu) to share.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: Bill Lumbergh, everyone's favorite boss in Office Space, said, "Oh, and remember: next Friday... is Hawaiian shirt day."
This Week's Quote: "Porsche. There is no substitute."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Ocean State University (OSU) has a few NLI signees that need to send transcripts to the NCAA Eligibility Center for evaluation. Can OSU help the signees' high schools pay for this expense?
Yes. NCAA Staff Interpretation - 12/20/13 - Institution Providing Expenses for a High School to Send Transcripts to the NCAA Eligibility Center (I) - states that it is permissible for an institution to provide expenses (e.g., FedEx charges) for a high school to send a prospective student-athlete's academic transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center, provided the prospective student-athlete has signed a National Letter of Intent or the institution's written offer of admission and/or financial aid or the institution has received his or her financial deposit in response to its offer of admission.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback. We welcome all calls and emails.
