
Rifle Earns Victory In NCAA Qualifier

FORT WORTH - The TCU women's rifle team wrapped up a successful regular season with a 4,682-4,634 victory over Air Force in the NCAA Qualifier. The Horned Frogs' aggregate score of 4,682 is good enough to ensure them a spot in the NCAA Championships next month.TCU fired an impressive mark of 2,329 in smallbore and backed it up with a 2,353 in air rifle to ensure the win. The Frogs' move to 10-0 on the season and stretches their winning streak to 23.
In preparing for the upcoming NCAA Tournament in March, head coach Karen Monez's five-member team featured Sarah Beard, Catherine Green, Megan Lee, Caitlin Morrissey and Sarah Scherer.
Beard paced all shooters in smallbore, shooting a 587. She shot a 586 in air rifle to finish seventh. Scherer was the top shooter in the match with a second place finish in smallbore and a first place finish in air rifle. The senior fired a 584 in smallbore and a 593 in air rifle.
Green continued her strong second half of the season, shooting a 582 in smallbore for a third place finish and a 586 in air rifle to finish sixth. Caitlin Morrissey had a strong outing, firing a 576 in smallbore and a 588 in air rifle. Rounding out the team counters was Megan Lee who shot a 574 in smallbore and a 583 in air rifle.
Hannah Black had a good day at the range as she finished second in air rifle after shooting a 590. Claudia Duksa recorded a top 10 finish in the smallbore as she shot a 573 to finish ninth. Kelly Bogart posted a top 10 finish in air rifle after shooting a 580.
TCU figures to be one of the top teams when the field of eight for the NCAA Championships are announced on Wednesday. The national championships are set for March 8-9. Ohio State will be the host.
