No. 8: TCU Scores Cotton Bowl Berth

FORT WORTH, Texas - With the opening of the 2012 football season rapidly approaching, GoFrogs.com continues its stroll down memory lane to review the No. 8 game in Amon G. Carter Stadium history.
The top 12 games all-time will be counted down leading up to the Sept. 8 season opener with Grambling State, so fans are encouraged to check back often. Please note that selected games have been looked at significantly over the last couple of months and were chosen by members of the TCU media relations staff.
The Aggies led 14-0 with nine minutes to play until third-string TCU tailback Ray McKown raced 49 yards down the right sideline to cut the lead in half. The Horned Frogs received an extra bit of help when Texas A&M was called for roughing the kicker.
Meyer and assistant coach Allie White took the penalty on the ensuing kickoff as the perfect time for an onside attempt, which was recovered by TCU's Wayne Martin at the Aggie 30. A few plays later, TCU scored to trail 14-13, but missed the extra point. However, luck was truly on the Horned Frogs' side as Texas A&M fumbled on its second play from scrimmage after the kickoff and Ray Pitcock fell on the ball at the 22.
McKown found his way into the end zone once more with only 1:35 left on the clock for the game's winning score. McKown, who after the day would be dubbed "The Dumas Dandy," inherited his leading role after the Frogs' top three offensive threats fell victim to injury, most notably All-America candidate Gilbert Bartosh the previous week.
The Southwest Conference had three top-10 teams heading into the week, but TCU's big win would be the difference in gaining the New Year's Day Cotton Bowl appearance.
