FORT WORTH, Texas - With the opening of the 2012 football season only a few weeks away, GoFrogs.com reviews the No. 4 game in Amon G. Carter Stadium history.
The top 12 games all-time will be counted down leading up to the Sept. 8 season opener with Grambling State, so fans are encouraged to check back often. Please note that selected games have been looked at significantly over the last couple of months and were chosen by members of the TCU media relations staff.
Already boasting a big game, Tomlinson unleashed runs of 70 and 63 yards on consecutive carries in the fourth quarter to approach the 400-yard milestone. Tomlinson's 70-yard rush enabled him to top Kenneth Davis' 15-year-old single-season rushing record, eventually reaching 1,725 yards at the game's conclusion. Tomlinson finished the 1999 campaign with 1,850 yards.
The 63-yard dash gave him the single-game school record, bettering the previous mark of 343 yards by Tony Jeffery against Tulane in 1986. Not only was Tomlinson's performance great in itself, but the Horned Frogs' offensive line did not include any seniors. The game certainly captured the nation's attention. After another great season in 2000, in which he topped the 2,000-yard mark with 2,158 yards, Tomlinson finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting.
