No. 6: Horned Frogs Drop Texas Tech

FORT WORTH, Texas - With the opening of the 2012 football season only a few weeks away, GoFrogs.com reviews the No. 6 game in Amon G. Carter Stadium history.
The top 12 games all-time will be counted down leading up to the Sept. 8 season opener with Grambling State, so fans are encouraged to check back often. Please note that selected games have been looked at significantly over the last couple of months and were chosen by members of the TCU media relations staff.
Texas Tech, bound for the Cotton Bowl, led 17-16 after a field goal with 6:23 remaining. Andre Davis, who entered the game as the nation's fourth-leading rusher, was quiet for the Horned Frogs with only 36 yards on 17 attempts. However, he would not let the sold-out Amon G. Carter Stadium crowd and national television audience down.
TCU quarterback Max Knake instructed his offensive line at the start of the ensuing Horned Frog drive that if they opened the holes, Davis would get them their share of the league title. Davis' first carry went for 12 yards before busting loose on a 28-yard march the next play to the Texas Tech 29.
TCU then faced a 3rd-and-6, but caught the Red Raider defense by surprise with a 14-yard Davis run to the 15. Two plays later, the Texas Tech defense appeared to have Davis stopped at the 6, but he kept his forward progress and pushed himself across the goal line for a 22-17 lead. Davis converted the two-point conversion on yet another clutch draw play and the Horned Frogs would hold on in the final 3:59 for the victory.
The most underrated feature of the win was defensive end Vincent Pryor's school record 4 1/2 sacks, one of the greatest single-game performances in TCU history in one of the school's biggest games.
