Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle
On the game...
"The difference in the game was defense. It wasn't like we were striking out a lot of guys, but we got three big double plays, one back to Crichton and Scharf got two big ones. If we play defense like that last Friday, or last Tuesday, our record would be different. We are trying to restart our season. I know it's cliche, but you have to go one at a time."
On the team...
"In 2008, we were 14-12 in our first 26 games including 2-4 in the Mountain West, losing two out of three here to New Mexico and again in Las Vegas. I remember standing out in left field in Vegas telling them that was my lowest point in my coaching career at TCU and it couldn't get much worse than that. But we found a way to start our season over and wound up going 30-7 down the stretch. That's been kind of the speech and it's all we can really do right now."
On Justin Scharf...
"He's kind of funky. He's gonna throw a lot of strikes, but won't exactly light up the radar gun. He's just got to throw it over the plate. I think his ground ball-to-fly ball ratio is 10:1 or 11:1, something like that. So he is always going to give you a chance to play defense."
TCU third baseman Jantzen Witte
On playing defense for the first time this season...
"I was a little rough around the edges at times with it being my first game back. I had a couple of balls hit to me and I did okay. I don't know how many double plays we turned but we played really well."
On being back at third base...
"It feels good, because when I was starting at DH it felt really weird and I was just starting to get comfortable with that. Everything went well tonight, starting with the infield."
On coming back from the injury...
"We knew I could hit before I could play defense. Initially we said 12 weeks after surgery I could play third and I believe this is week 11, so I pushed it up a little bit defensively."
