WINDMERE, Fla.--TCU opened competition at the annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Sunday at Isleworth Country Club, carding a 9-over-par 297 to grab a share of eighth place heading into Round 2.
The Isleworth course played tough during the opening round, as only top-ranked Cal (-4) finished below par. Texas is in second place at even par, while the Horned Frogs are only six shots behind third-place Illinois (+3). Thirteen of the field's 15 teams entered the weekend ranked among the nation's top-42 squads according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rating system.
Sophomore Julien Brun led the way for TCU in Round 1, as he shot an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for seventh place. Brun is five shots back of the individual leader, Cal's Michael Kim, who posted a 5-under 67.
Senior Daniel Jennevret is two strokes behind Brun after carding a 2-over 74 that earned him a tie for 22nd place. Fellow senior Eli Cole sits in a share of 36th after recording a 3-over 75, while freshman Paul Barjon rounded out the TCU scoring with a 4-over 76. The only other Frog in the field, freshman Michael Culin, shot a 6-over 78.
Competition at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational continues Monday and Tuesday with 18 holes each day.
