CAMPBELL'S/ITA COLLEGE TENNIS RANKINGS
SKILLMAN, N.J. - TCU's women's tennis team grabbed spots in the team, singles and doubles versions of the Campbell's/ITA College Tennis Rankings released last week.
The Horned Frogs open the year ranked No. 51 in the team rankings after finishing last year ranked as the No. 59 team in the country. TCU advanced to the Mountain West championship match a year ago.
"I really anticipate we'll be ranked higher as the year goes on," TCU coach Dave Borelli said. "Historically, the early-season rankings focus more on what you did last year rather than what players you have on your roster. I'm really excited about what we've got and to have individuals in the rankings as well."
TCU boasts two doubles teams ranked in the top-60. Olivia Smith and Millie Nichols open the year ranked No. 31 in the nation, while Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram are No. 57.
Additionally, after winning the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship in the fall, Smith and Nichols are the No. 1-ranked tandem in the Texas region. Denti and Sundaram open the season at No. 7 in the region after claiming the HEB Baylor Invitational doubles title in the fall season.
In singles play, freshman Stefanie Tan is the highest-ranked Frog, checking in at No. 92 in the ITA singles rankings. Smith, a junior, opens the year ranked No. 114.
For the Texas region singles rankings, TCU landed three in the top-13. Freshman Simona Parajova is ranked No. 7, while Tan and Smith checked in at 8th and 13th, respectively.
TCU opens the 2012 season Jan. 21 when Syracuse visits the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
