Kristen Hester was tabbed the MVP, while Sarah Joeckel earned Libero of the tournament. Joining them on the all-tournament squad were Jordan Raines and Megan Munce.
Hester led the team with 15 kills on 19 swings for a career-high .789 attack percentage. Raines pitched in with 12 kills and a team-high three aces. Munce completed her fourth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 16 digs. Yvonne Igodan totaled seven kills and Sloane Sunstrum put down five kills in the win. Joeckel finished a solid tournament with 16 digs.
With the first set tied at five, the Frogs put together an 11-2 run to open up a commanding 16-7 lead. Raines dropped in two aces in the run while Igodan, Emily Kirby and Sunstrum all banged down kills.
The Cardinals tried to climb back in the set with a 5-0 run, but a blast from Hester squelched the rally. TCU kept rolling behind kills from Munce, Igodan and Raines and eventually had set point on a blast from Sunstrum. Igodan took advantage of an overpass and drilled it to the sideline to lock up the 25-16 set one victory.
Lamar pushed back in the second set as both teams battled to a 10-10 tie, but back-to-back kills from Hester put the Frogs in front to stay. Two straight blasts from Raines helped the Frogs open up its biggest advantage of the set, 18-12.
Maddy Brown and Mattie Burleson teamed on a block on the outside to make it a 22-15 set and a kill from Hester gave TCU set point. Brown clinched the 25-19 victory with her lone kill of the set.
TCU didn't let off the gas pedal as it raced out to a 15-7 lead in the third set. Hester was instrumental in the early run as she drilled four kills and served up an ace to give TCU an 8-3 lead. Igodan, Burleson and Raines joined the fun to force a Lamar timeout with the Frogs firmly in control, leading 15-6.
Lamar went on a 7-4 run to pull back within five, 20-15, but Igodan provided the momentum killer as she drilled the ball for her sixth kill of the match. She provided a solo block in the middle to make it 23-15 and finished off the Frogs' win with her seventh kill of the match.
TCU improves to 6-0 with the victory. The Frogs will remain on the road as they head to Villanova next weekend to take part in the Villanova Classic. The Frogs first match of the tournament is set for Friday, Sept. 9 against Loyola (MD). First serve is 4 p.m. (CST).
