SCOUTING STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
The Ladyjacks return 10 starters a 2010 squad that posted a 13-5-2 overall mark, including a 6-2-1 ledger to finish second in the Southland Conference. Stephen F. Austin was picked to win the 2011 SLC regular season championship in the preseason poll by the league's coaches. SFA had five players earn preseason accolades from the conference, led by junior reigning co-player of the year Kylie Louw, junior Laura Sadler and senior Jordan King with first-team honors. Louw, a midfielder from Discovery, South Africa, led the conference in goals per game (0.57) and was second in points per game (1.43) in league play last season.
SFA enters the weekend with a 3-2-1 overall record after tying Louisiana Tech (1-1) and upending Houston Baptist (3-0) at home. The Ladyjacks scored all three goals of their goals against HBU in the second half. Sophomore Brenda Salazar and freshman Chelsea Raymond pace the squad with two goals scored this fall.
SERIES HISTORY
TCU has never lost to the Stephen F. Austin, owning a 6-0 record in the all-time series. Friday's trip to Nacogdoches will be the first for the Frogs since 1998. TCU has posted shutouts in both meetings at SFA, boasting a 2-0 victory in 1996 before a 5-0 blanking in 1998. The most recent showdowns in Fort Worth witnessed the Frogs earn a 5-0 win in 2008 and 5-2 decision in 2009.
SHOUT OUT TO SHUTOUTS
The TCU defense was stellar last weekend at the Red Raider Classic, posting a pair of 1-0 shutouts to topple Toledo and Hofstra. True freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright registered 11 combined saves for the tournament to earn Most Valuable Goalkeeper accolades. The last time the Frogs enjoyed back-to-back blankings came on the road against Arizona State and Northern Arizona in Sept. 2008. TCU has had three shutouts through the first seven games of 2011.
MILESTONE WATCH
Senior forward Jordan Calhoun is already the all-time leading scorer in TCU history with 31 career goals, but she is quickly on pace to set a few more program marks. The Norman, Okla., native has 11 career assists, seven behind the TCU career benchmark set by Allison Calleri from 1996-99. Calhoun has also tallied 74 career points, needing two more to surpass Sarah Campbell's program record of 75 from 1986-89.
CALHOUN AND TAYLOR SWEEP MW WEEKLY HONORS
TCU senior forward Jordan Calhoun has been named Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while senior defender Katie Taylor has garnered MW Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Calhoun, a native of Norman, Okla., scored the game-winning goals, while Taylor led the defensive back line in a pair of 1-0 victories to help lead TCU to the 2011 Red Raider Classic Championship. Calhoun and Taylor were also named the Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players of the tournament, respectively.
RECAPPING THE RED RAIDER CLASSIC
TCU posted a pair of 1-0 shutout victories against Toledo and Hofstra to claim the 2011 Red Raider Classic championship and was the only squad to go unbeaten in the four-team bracket. For the weekend, the Frogs had six players honored as members of the all-tournament team. Senior forward Jordan Calhoun was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player, while senior Katie Taylor and freshman Alicen Wright were deemed the Defensive MVP and Goalkeeper MVP, respectively. Senior Alex Mechalske, junior Monica Alvarado and freshman Becca Rowland were also recognized for their efforts on the all-tournament squad.
KEEPING IT SAFE
True freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright has been impressive between the pipes for the Horned Frogs in her first collegiate season. The Chino Hills, Calif., native currently paces the Mountain West in saves (48) and save percentage (.906). Through the first seven matches of the season, Wright is averaging .072 goals and 6.86 stops per match. Wright entered the weekend ranked in the No. 10 in the NCAA in saves and No. 17 in save percentage.
