FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head coach Jeff Mittie announced the additions of Chris Johnson and Jayci Stone to the Horned Frog women's basketball staff Wednesday.
Johnson will join the Frogs as an assistant coach, while Stone will take over as video coordinator.
"We are excited to add both Chris and Jayci to our women's basketball staff," said Mittie. "Both bring diverse backgrounds and experiences that will benefit our entire program. They both are great additions to our existing staff."
Johnson comes to TCU following a one-year stint as head girls basketball coach at Lutheran High School-North in Houston. This past season, Johnson guided the Lady Lions to 20 victories on the year and a second round playoff appearance.
Johnson, who also spent three successful years as an assistant coach at Westside High School, has been a mainstay in club basketball in the Houston area. Since 2008, Johnson has been both the executive director and head coach of Cyfair Premier Basketball, which is widely considered one of the top AAU programs in the state of Texas. During his time as director and coach, Johnson had numerous players ranked in the top 100 in the country, with nearly every player going on to play women's basketball at the collegiate level.
The Houston native, who earned a bachelor's degree in business and Spanish from Houston Baptist in 2003, was a two-time All-America honoree at HBU, while leading the Huskies to consecutive Red River Conference Championships and back-to-back trips to the NAIA National Tournament.
Stone arrives at TCU following coaching stops at Hutchinson Community College, Frank Phillips College and the University of Alaska-Anchorage.
During her stay at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, Stone guided the Dragons to a 59-7 overall record and a No. 5 national ranking. HCC also claimed the 2010-11 Jayhawk West Conference Championship.
A 2008 graduate of Kansas State with a bachelor's in social sciences, Stone previously worked as an assistant coach at Frank Phillips College following one-year as a student assistant for the Seawolves.
The Goodland, Kan., native, began her playing career at Colby Community College where she earned All-Jayhawk West and All-Region VI honors after averaging 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 2005.
Following a brief stint at New Mexico State, Stone transferred to the University of Alaska-Anchorage where she was voted the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year as well as earning second-team all-conference honors.
With the Seawolves, Stone broke the program's single-season record for 3-point field goals made (76) and attempted (237), while leading UAA to a national tournament bid. Stone, who ranked No. 26 in NCAA Division II with 2.6 3-pointers per game, also broke the school and conference single-game records for 3-pointers made (8) and attempted (21).
TCU will open its 2011-12 season at Georgia on Friday, Nov. 11. Start time has yet to be announced.
