Volleyball Tops Alumni In Straight Sets

Representing the White squad, Megan Munce turned in a triple-double with 12 kills, 13 digs and 17 assists. The match was Munce's first competitive outing since suffering a season-ending injury on Sept. 3, 2010.
Fleming Smurthwaite tallied 14 assists and five digs. Yvonne Igodan led the Purple squad with nine kills, followed by eight from Jordan Raines and five from newcomer Mattie Burleson. Meghan Horio led the defensive charge for White with 13 digs and also pitched in a match-high four aces. Another newcomer, Courtnee Davis pitched in with nine digs.
The Purple squad had solid performances from Kristen Hester (13 kills, 7 blocks and 7 digs) and Sloane Sunstrum (17 kills, 8 digs). Sarah Joeckel was outstanding in the backrow with a match-high 26 digs. Newcomer Megan Griffin led the offense with 31 assists and also pitched in with 10 digs to complete the double-double.
In the Alumni match, the Frogs were led by Igodan's eight kills. Joeckel continued her defensive prowess with six digs, followed closely by Davis' five. Burleson dropped in five kills and Sunstrum four.
For the Alumni squad, Hayley Harmon had three kills as did Skye Tacker. Jenn (Cuca) Vegors and Stacy Olsen each tallied five digs. Also seeing time on the court for the Alums were Anna (Vaughn) Martin, Loren Barry and Allyson (Lynch) Pent.
TCU kicks off the regular season on Friday night when it plays host to the TCU Invitational. The Horned Frogs first match of the season is against Texas Tech at 7 p.m. in the University Rec Center.
