
Beard and Scherer Compete At Munich World Cup

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU rifle team members Sarah Beard and Sarah Scherer recently wrapped up competition at the Munich World Cup. The duo were among 890 competitors from 86 different countries.
Similar to her appearance at the World Cup competition in Fort Benning, Ga., Beard was shooting to obtain the International Shooting Sport Federation Olympic Games minimum qualifying score that must be achieved at a world level competition. She achieved her goal, shooting a 398, hitting 37 of 40 center shots.
She then took part in the 3x20 50 meter match. Facing elimination, she shot a 582 to qualify for the actual competition. In the next round, she fired a 579 to finish 31st out of 80 competitors.
Scherer shot a 395 in the women's air rifle event to place 37th out of 141 shooters. Additionally, she attempted to shoot a minimum qualifying score in the 3x20 50-meter match. Scherer shot a 577 in the event.
Next up for Beard and Scherer will be the USA Shooting National Championships, which will also be tryouts for 2011 Pan American Games. The event will be held at Fort Benning, Georgia beginning July 1.
