FORT WORTH, Texas - Recent Horned Frog women's basketball standout Helena Sverrisdottir will continue her playing career with the Slovakia Good Angels Kosice of FIBA Europe.
"When they offered me, I was really excited because its one of the top clubs in Europe," said Sverrisdottir. "They also play in the EuroLeague and it has been my dream for a long time to play in the best league in Europe. I'm very excited to start this next chapter in my life even though it is going to be very hard to leave TCU and all of the people that I've gotten to know during the last four years."
The Slovakia Good Angels Kosice are considered one of the top clubs in the International Basketball Federation and made it to the quarterfinals of EuroLeague Women earlier this year.
"Helena has had an excellent career here at TCU and has been one of the top players in the history of our program," said head coach Jeff Mittie. "She has now accomplished her goal of signing to play professional basketball with a top-flight organization. She will play against some of the top competition in the world and I believe will have an excellent pro career."
During this past season, Sverrisdottir became the first player in TCU history to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists for her career. She leaves TCU as the program's all-time leader in assists and games started. The Iceland native, who was a three-time first team all-conference performer after being honored with first team accolades this season, is only the third player in program history to earn All-America honors when she received honorable-mention notice from the WBCA and Associated Press during her junior campaign.
