TCU Opens Tournament Play Wednesday Against New Mexico

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The TCU Horned Frogs open play in the 2011 MWC Postseason Tournament Wednesday night. The No. 1-seeded Frogs will play 6th-seed New Mexico who advanced after defeating the 3rd-seed BYU Tuesday afternoon. Game time Wednesday is set for 9 p.m. (CST). Matt Purke will start TCU's opening game of the tournament.
TCU NOTABLES
TCU matched its best finish in league play with a sweep of New Mexico to stretch its winning streak to six games.
TCU completed just its third regular season with 40 wins in school history.
The Frogs' 40-win season was the sixth in school history, all coming under Jim Schlossnagle.
The Frogs won their sixth straight league title with a 20-3 record in conference play.
Ten Horned Frogs were honored as all-conference performers.
Jantzen Witte, Josh Elander and Stefan Crichton were all first-time honorees.
Joe Weik stretched his hitting streak to 16 games with a solid weekend at New Mexico that saw him hit .615 (8-for-13).
Matt Purke, Kyle Winkler, Teddy Nowell and Tyler Duffie all combined to throw TCU's fourth shut out of the season on Thursday.
On Friday, TCU set a season-high with 25 runs scored, 26 base hits and 35 total bases.
Jantzen Witte was 6-for-7 in Friday's win.
TCU is 25-6 since the start of April.
Taylor Featherston led the team with eight RBIs against the Lobos.
NEUTRAL SITE NOTABLES
TCU is playing its first neutral site games of the season.
Under Coach Schlossnagle, the Frogs hold a 27-17 record at neutral sites.
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT NOTABLES
After missing out on a title in 2009, the 2010 squad returned to form with a three-game sweep of the MWC Tournament in San Diego.
TCU's tournament crown in 2010 was its sixth title in the last seven years.
TCU is 22-4 in conference tournaments under Jim Schlossnagle.
TCU has had 30 players honored on the all-tournament squads over the last seven years.
Matt Purke, Kyle Winkler and Taylor Featherston all have all-tournament plaques on their resumes.
TCU has won 17 straight road tournament games dating back to the 2004 season.
Three of TCU's four losses in the conference tournament have come at Lupton Stadium, the other was in Houston in 2004.
The Frogs have won titles at Houston, at Southern Miss, at UNLV twice, at TCU and at San Diego State.
TCU vs. NEW MEXICO NOTABLES
Wednesdays meeting with the Lobos will be the 51st in the series.
TCU holds a 37-13 advantage in the series.
Since joining the MWC in 2006, the Frogs are 23-6 against the Lobos.
TCU won five of six meetings against the Lobos this season, including sweeping the Lobos in Albuquerque this past weekend.
TCU is 4-1 against New Mexico in the MWC Postseason Tournament.
