Former TCU cornerback Malcolm Williams has been picked in the seventh round by New England to give the Horned Frogs five selections in the 2011 National Football League Draft, including two by the Patriots.
TCU has five players drafted for the second time in three seasons. During his 10-year tenure as head coach, Gary Patterson has had 29 players drafted. Last month, ESPN.com ranked TCU No. 1 in the nation for developing NFL talent.
Offensive tackle Marcus Cannon and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley were selected in the fifth round by the New England Patriots and New York Jets, respectively. Safety Colin Jones went to the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round. Quarterback Andy Dalton was a second-round pick Friday by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Williams was a two-year letterman for TCU after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College. He originally signed with Oklahoma.
A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Williams was moved to cornerback in 2010 after coming to TCU as a safety.
As a senior, Williams ranked fourth on TCU with 11 special teams tackles. He totaled 12 stops on the year.
Six of Williams' 10 tackles as a junior came on special teams. He had a fumble recovery in the Horned Frogs' 55-28 win over Utah.
