FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football program honored its 26 seniors from the 2010 team and its Rose Bowl championship at Saturday night's team banquet in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Before a crowd of nearly 1,000, the seniors were recognized for their 44 victories which made them the winningest class in TCU history. The Horned Frog seniors led TCU to a bowl game each season on campus, including back-to-back conference championships and BCS appearances. They were 8-2 against teams from BCS automatic-qualifying conferences and 23-1 in home games at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Quarterback Andy Dalton was presented TCU's Dan Rogers Most Valuable Player award, becoming the first offensive player to receive the award since fellow signal caller Jeff Ballard in 2006.
A three-time bowl game MVP, Dalton became TCU's all-time winningest quarterback with 42 victories. He set TCU single-season records with 27 touchdown passes and a 66.1 completion percentage last season. The two-time Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year holds every major TCU passing record and was a finalist for the Manning Award, Johnny Unitas Award and Bobby Bowden Award while being a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O'Brien Award. He finished ninth in Heisman Trophy voting.
Linebacker Tank Carder and Tejay Johnson, two of TCU's five first-team All-Americans last season, shared the Horned Frogs' Defensive Most Valuable Player award.
Carder was the Rose Bowl Defensive MVP. He batted down a potential game tying 2-point pass with two minutes to play to preserve the 21-19 victory over Wisconsin. He also recorded six tackles against the Badgers, including three for loss with a sack. Johnson was one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.
Jeremy Kerley received TCU's Most Valuable Special Teams Player as well as being the Special Teams Points Leader.
Also a first-team All-American, Kerley was one of three finalists for the Paul Hornung Award as College Football's Most Versatile Performer. He was the MWC Special Teams Player of the Year for the second straight season and the league's first-team All-MWC return specialist for the third consecutive year. He was one of just two players in the nation to rank in the top 20 in punt returns (12.9 yards) and kickoff returns (27.7 yards) last season.
Wide receiver Bart Johnson, who became TCU's first Academic All-American since 2003, received the G. Malcolm Louden Academic Achievement Award.
At the conclusion of the program, former TCU standouts Brian Bonner, David Hawthorne and Jason Phillips modeled the new uniforms the Horned Frogs will wear in the 2011 season.
