FORT WORTH - TCU athletes Andrew Mitchell and Jessica Young have been named the TCU Athletes of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Mitchell picked up his third win of the season last week after holding the sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies to a unearned run on two hits in 5 2/3 innings. In his longest outing since his start against Texas State on March 22, the freshman retired 10-straight batters at one point and the only two hits he allowed came in the second inning.
The Houston, Texas, native improved to 2-0 against Big 12 teams on the road and TCU is 3-1 in games he starts.
Young torched the track with a time of 23.05 to win the women's 200 meters at the Michael Johnson/Dr. Pepper Classic in Waco, Texas. The time topped her previous personal-best clocking of 23.16 from the 2009 season. Young's time makes her the fourth-fastest Frog in the event in the program's history and is also the fourth-best clocking in Mountain West Conference history. The senior would also finish second overall in the women's 100 meters.
The Columbia, S.C., native would later return to the oval to join Franchelle Hill, Veronica Jones and Whitney Gipson on the Frogs' 4x100 relay team that registered the quickest time of the spring at 44.43 for third-place honors.
